Grant Funding Awarded to CEHD - June 2012 Update

Grant funding for faculty research at the College of Education and Human Development continues its upward trajectory.

Faculty from CEHD's Graduate School of Education and School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism bring in millions of dollars in grants each year. Much of the funded research benefits Virginia directly while a significant proportion, particularly in the area of STEM education, reflects CEHD's core areas of strength and increasing national prominence.

Graduate School of Education funding

  • Padmanabhan Seshaiyer, Jennifer Suh, and Toni Smith received an award in the amount of $222,040 titled "Mathematics and Science Partnership Program—Grades 6-8" from the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Padmanabhan Seshaiyer and Jennifer Suh received an award in the amount of $215,997 titled "Mathematics and Science Partnership Program—Grades K-2" from the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Bev Shaklee received an award from the Virginia Department of Education for $145,679. The title of the award is "EDUC 600: Workshop in Education: Reading and Writing Strategies for English Language Learners."
  • Libby Hall received an award from the Virginia Department of Education for $145,500 titled "Virginia College/University Partnership Laboratory School Planning Grant."
  • Kevin Clark received an award in the amount of $137,021 from the National Science Foundation titled "STEM for All."
  • Marjorie Hall Haley received an award in the amount of $99,071 from the National Security Agency titled "Startalk: 21st Century Skills—Implications for Teaching Critical Needs Languages."
  • Lynne Schrum received an award for $64,534 titled "Disseminating Effective Learning Through Automation (DELTA)" from the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Padmanabhan Seshaiyer, Jennifer Suh, Toni Smith, and Nathalia Peixoto received an award in the amount of $57,013 titled "VA STEM CoNNECT: Virginia Collaborative Nurturing Network to Enhance Content-Focused Teaching." The award is sponsored by Longwood University.

School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism funding

  • David Anderson received an award from the United Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County in the amount of $40,000 titled "Evaluation of Community Young Adult Drinking and Driving Prevention."
  • Cindy Waddell received an award for $4,945 from Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia. The title of the award is "An Examination of the Effects of the Girls on the Run Program."
