Outstanding Science Educator of the Year is Awarded to Erin Peters-Burton

Congratulations to Erin Peters Burton, named Outstanding Science Teacher Educator of the Year 2016!

Burton is an associate professor of education at George Mason University and the director of the Division of Educational Psychology, Research Methods, and Education Policy.

"I am delighted that Dr. Burton has received this award," said Mark R. Ginsberg, dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Mason. "It is well-deserved recognition of her excellence as a teacher educator and mentor, and her commitment to teaching excellence through inquiry-based pedagogic models."

Ginsberg noted that the award is a significant indicator of both Burton's important research and leadership and the college's core strengths in STEM teacher education.

The award, which will be presented at the annual conference of the Association for Science Teacher Education in January, recognizes excellence in teaching, success in developing science programs and curricula, quantity and quality of research activities, and leadership.

Burton's research was the focus of a Scientific American article in August 2015 titled "Science For All," which described the research team's findings regarding a new breed of schools known as inclusive STEM-focused high schools. Her research was also the subject of a Mason News article called "Mason Research on STEM High Schools Is Cited in President’s 2016 Budget."
