Eter Mjavanadze, doctoral student in the PhD in Education Program, received an Advancing Innovative Math Solutions (AIMS) EduData grant with professor Angela Miller to support their research on learners’ early engagement and persistence patterns, which they can use to identify actionable insights for educators. Katherine Fraze, a graduate student in the Counseling Program, has been awarded a competitive High Impact Grant from the Office of the Provost for the fall 2025 semester. Katherine will be completing her internship with Activv Counseling, where she will be seeing clients and co-facilitating group therapy.

Out of 12 doctoral poster presentations, judges selected doctoral student Salvatore Ferranti as the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Doctoral Poster Presentation.’ Salvatore’s presentation, A Scale Validation of Teaching Self-Efficacy in Kinesiology Faculty, was based on research supported by Debra Stroiney.
The Special Education Student Organization, EDSE Council, has been nominated for a Student Involvement 2024-2025 Distinguished Quill Award. Awards are given to leaders and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional development and impact to the George Mason community. This is the highest honor student organizations can receive. Bilgehan Ayik, a doctoral student in the PhD in Education Program, received the 2025 American Educational Research Association (AERA)'s Outstanding Graduate Student Paper award. On top of getting her PhD, Bilgehan is also an engaged graduate research assistant for our Global Online Teacher Education Center and Advancing Content-Integrated Education for English Learners with a STEM focus initiative.
