New Fellowship Offers Up to $21,000 Per Student Per Year for PhD in Special Education

Up to $21,000 per year per student in fellowship funding is available to Mason students pursuing a PhD in high incidence disabilities.

George Mason University is now offering a generous fellowship opportunity to full-time students who are interested in pursuing a PhD in special education and a career in higher education. An information session will be held on November 5, 2012, at 7:30 pm in Room 119 of the Finley Building on the Fairfax campus.

The funding for this new opportunity is provided by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs as part of an initiative called Project Ascend that is being spearheaded by Dr. Margo Mastropieri and Dr. Thomas Scruggs. The full-time doctoral program emphasizes teaching, research, and leadership competencies as well as faculty mentorships. Applications are due February 1, 2013.

As part of the study program, students agree to participate in an internship in a high-need school and also agree to work in a relevant area for two years post-graduation for every year of funding. Students receive up to $21,000 per year in fellowship funding, tuition coverage, research supplies, travel support, and research support.
