Mason Highlights Management Careers in SRHT Professions

Looking for a career in a field you love? A new Mason website highlights the many paths leading to a career in management, including sports, tourism, and events management.
The Careers in Management site highlights in particular the undergraduate majors and minors offered by the School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism that provide specific industry knowledge and field experiences that can lead to some great careers.
Recreation Management
Public, private, and commercial sectors of the leisure service industry provide management and leadership career opportunities for students interested in recreation administration, parks management, leisure planning and policy, therapeutic recreation, and youth service agency leadership.
Major: Recreation Management concentration* in the BS in Health, Fitness, and Recreation Resources
Minor: Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies, minor
Sport Management
Well-trained, capable professionals enjoy careers in the sport industry that are as varied as the industry itself. Opportunities exist in private enterprises and commercial ventures including professional teams and leagues, sport agencies specializing in sport marketing, sponsorship, athlete representation, and venue and event management; also, in government or public employment settings, including community, interscholastic or intercollegiate sport; and, in non- profit or voluntary agencies, including amateur sports organizations, federations, conferences, and associations.
Major: Sport Management concentration in the BS in Health, Fitness, and Recreation Resources
Tourism and Events Management
Students with interests in tourism management qualify themselves for leadership, programming, and management positions in: resorts, hotels, destination marketing organizations, meeting/conference planning, festival management, event planning, wedding planning, tour operations, visitor services, cruise ships, entertainment venues, cultural attractions, eco-tourism operations, and research and consulting.
Majors: Tourism and Events Management, BS with concentrations in Tourism Management, Events Management, and Hospitality Management.
*Note: Recreation Management is a new name that will take effect in 2013. The current name of the concentration is Parks and Outdoor Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation.
