Profile

Prior to joining Mason's Education Leadership faculty in August 2019, Dr. Marshall served 27 years as a public school educator in Hawaii and Virginia working as a special education teacher, education evaluator, assistant principal, and principal.  She served as a principal of a Title I school in Springfield, Virginia and an Advanced Academic Center in Alexandria, Virginia.  Dr. Marshall also worked on Capitol Hill from 2000-2001 on the Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as Legislative Assistant to Senator Susan Collins.  Dr. Marshall has served as both an aspiring principal leader and principal mentor. She was awarded the 2011 Distinguished Educational Leadership Award from the Washington Post for her outstanding work as principal.  She was again recognized in 2015 and 2017 by the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers as an Outstanding Principal.   Her college teaching experiences also have included adjunct faculty at the University of Virginia.  She has presented nationally through the Center for Responsive Schools on school climate and culture as well as Professional Learning Communities.

Research Interests

Dr. Marshall's current research interests include principal leadership development, school climate and culture, professional learning communities, cultural competence and equity in schools and effective on-line intervention.  Dr. Marshall has and earned doctorate degree in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
