During your onboarding process, you will discover the opportunities, expectations, and resources available to you as a student at George Mason University, and specifically within our college. New Student Orientation for first-year and transfer students is organized centrally through George Mason University. Register for orientation, view new student checklists, and sign up for transfer pre-advising at orientation.gmu.edu.
Students pursuing a Master’s degree, PhD, or graduate certificate in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) are expected to complete three levels of onboarding:
- University Graduate Online Orientation
- CEHD Graduate Orientation course in Blackboard
The CEHD Graduate Orientation course in Blackboard in an online, self-paced series of modules that inform incoming graduate students of our college structure, academic expectations, policies, and support resources. Students are expected to complete the CEHD Graduate Orientation before classes start, and have access to the course throughout the first semester.

Check if your program within CEHD has an information session planned (CEHD Graduate Orientation > Orientation Extras > Program Information Sessions).
Accessing the CEHD Graduate Orientation course in Blackboard:
You will be invited as a student in the CEHD Graduate Orientation Blackboard course according to the following timeline:

How to find the course:
- Go to mymasonportal.gmu.edu
- Click George Mason Bb Login
- Enter your NetID and password click Login
- From your Blackboard home page, select Courses
- Under Course List, select CEHD Graduate Orientation
- Start with the welcome from Dean Guerra-López!

Your CEHD Graduate Orientation invitation email may not arrive right when you confirm your intent to enroll. If you have not received an invitation a week out from the start of your first semester, please contact CEHD Student and Academic Affairs at cehdsaa@gmu.edu.
