Erica King

Erica L. King is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Patriot Performance Lab, where she leads applied sports performance research focused on neuromuscular function, athlete workload, and return‑to‑play monitoring. She works directly with George Mason University Intercollegiate Athletic programs supporting testing, performance analytics, and the translation of sport‑science insights into daily training environments. Her work emphasizes advanced technologies such as novel wearable ultrasound systems, force plate profiling, external load tracking, and machine‑learning models to understand adaptations to training and competition. King earned her BS and PhD in Bioengineering from George Mason University, where she competed as a varsity swimmer. Her dissertation focused on the development and validation of a novel distributed wearable ultrasound system for real‑time muscle monitoring during high‑intensity activity. She has published widely and presented her research at national and international conferences. In addition to her research role, King is the CEO of Myokinetics, Inc., a start-up company developing next‑generation muscle‑monitoring wearables for performance and rehabilitation. She is actively involved in mentoring developing sport scientists and collaborates with coaches, medical staff, and athletes to improve performance outcomes and support long‑term athlete health.
