Mason Faculty Promote Design Thinking With Korean Engineering Students

February 5, 2014

Three Mason professors, each from a different college on campus, implemented an innovative, international, instructional program last month.

The two-week workshop, called "Innovation Design," was offered at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), one of the leading science and technology institutes in Korea, to a group of undergraduate science and engineering students.

The collaboration among Mason faculty involved Dr. Jennifer Suh from the College of Education and Human Development; Dr. Nathalia Peixoto from the College of Engineering; and Dr. Padhu Seshaiyer from the College of Science.

The workshop promoted design thinking, creativity, and project-based teaching and assessment practices with undergraduate engineering students as they worked to apply their discipline specific knowledge to solving real engineering problems. The workshop was co-designed and delivered with Dr. Kwan Hong Lee, a PhD graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, and Dr. Daniel Suh of Pohang University of Science and Technology.
