ACCESS Academy Spotlight: Roberto Pamas
Dr. Roberto Pamas, Director of ACCESS Academy, oversees the direction and execution of George Mason University’s bold experiment in reimagining high school. With three decades of experience in Fairfax County Public Schools as an educator and administrator, Dr. Pamas brings a deep understanding of both classroom realities and systemic challenges to his work at the Academy.
When asked what ACCESS Academy means to him, Dr. Pamas explained, “ACCESS Academy is about giving students an innovative opportunity to see what’s possible. It’s more than academics—it’s about helping students build the skills, experiences, and confidence to pursue careers, college, and futures they might not have imagined before. Every project and challenge is designed to teach them to think creatively, work collaboratively, and tackle problems with resilience.”
Under his leadership, ACCESS Academy blends rigorous academics, dual enrollment, and problem-based learning with career-connected experiences, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges. From designing the curriculum to guiding hands-on initiatives like the AI Summer Camps, Dr. Pamas ensures that the Academy stays true to its mission: creating equitable pathways for students who may not have previously seen opportunities in higher education or high-demand careers. His vision is clear: to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
