Beijing Normal University (2013)

Lead faculty: Dr. Rebecca Fox

Additional Contributing faculty: Maria Katradis, Anastasia Samaras, Debbie Sprague, Jie Tian and Terry Zawacki

Sponsor: Sponsored jointly by the Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning Program and the Center for International Education, the Beijing Normal University program provided professional development for 6 Chinese educators who teach English as a Foreign Language. The seminars were designed to deepen the Chinese educators practice through technology, teacher research, and advanced professional development.  Content of the program focused on standards-based, student-centered, and proficiency oriented instruction in the world language classroom. Participants examined formative and summative assessment practices that support a proficiency-oriented learning environment and created professional portfolios aligned with the ACTFL/NCATE Standards. During their three week stay, Chinese educators also attended many cultural events available in the D.C. area, such as Independence Day festivities in D.C. and museum tours.
