PhD Programs

PhD in Education with a specialization in International Education

The PhD in Education Program at Mason offers a specialization in International Education, which is closely associated with CIE. Designed for policymakers and practitioners, the PhD International Education focuses on social justice and equity through an interdisciplinary curriculum. This curriculum combines core study in international education with course work in economic, social and political development, conflict resolution, institutional development, language and culture and history. PhD in Education with a specialization in International Education/Education Leadership

Launched during the summer of 2018, this cohort based program, is a unique opportunity for international school professionals to complete a PhD that includes online and summer face-to-face classes. The focus for this joint specialization is on teacher leaders, early administrators and others interested in international schools both locally and globally. Courses are designed to help aspiring leaders in the international school community earn a PhD. Students will engage in doctoral studies at one of the highest-ranking research institutions in the United States of America. Applications open September 15th and close January 15th, 2022. FAST TRAIN/TCLDEL International Education Programs

CIE is closely associated with the Teaching Culturally, Linguistically diverse & Exceptional Learners (TCLDEL) program formerly known as FAST TRAIN. Established in 1990, these graduate programs with the Department of State provide certificate, licensure, and master's degrees for teachers living around the world in Elementary Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Advanced International Baccalaureate and Special Education. Each year, over 200 teachers complete intensive summer coursework at Mason or enroll in entirely online education programs focused on international teaching & learning.
