What is the Flat Patriot project?
The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) Communications team have printed the Mason Patriot mascot on card stock and added a handle, and are distributing this “Flat Patriot” to alumni, faculty, staff, and students, and encouraging you to share photos of the Flat Patriot in your environment.
The goal of this project is to showcase the breadth, diversity, and positive impact of our CEHD community, and to highlight the different places you are studying, working, interning, and making a difference.
How to use the Flat Patriot
Using the Flat Patriot is simple.
- Hold the Flat Patriot in front of the environment you’d like to showcase, and take a photo of them as if they are there. You can be in the photo with the Flat Patriot, if you wish.
- Email your photo to Hannah King at hwhite28@gmu.edu with the subject line “[Your name] - Flat Patriot” and include a brief description of who you are and where the Flat Patriot was photographed.
- You may also post your photo on social media with the hashtag #FlatPatriot.
Please DO NOT include the Flat Patriot in any obscene or explicit photographs. Obscene or explicit Flat Patriot photos will be immediately deleted and/or reported on social media.
Please DO show the Flat Patriot visiting you at work, on your study abroad trip, in your dorm room, at your internship, hanging out with your family, meeting your pets, and in any other environment that will help showcase the breadth, diversity, and positive impact of our community.

Where do I send my Flat Patriot photos?
Once you feel like your content is ready to share, please send it to Hannah King at hwhite28@gmu.edu with the subject line, "*Name* - Flat Patriot." Please also include a description of who you are, your relationship to CEHD (current student, alumni, staff, faculty), and where you are featuring the Flat Patriot.
Where will my Flat Patriot photos show up?
Once you send us your content, you are giving us permission to share your content in our CEHD communications channels, such as our flagship social media accounts, newsletters, and website. We also encourage you to share Flat Patriot content on your personal social media accounts using the hashtag, #FlatPatriot.
