Teacher Licensure

Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests and Qualifying Substitutes

VDOE Required Entry Assessments to State-Approved Initial Teacher Licensure Programs at Mason – Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Test: Reading (5712); Writing (5722); and Mathematics (5732)

Effective Spring 2015 Internships, all official and passing test scores must be submitted and in the Mason system (i.e. Banner/PatriotWeb) by the application deadline.

The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests: Reading (5712); Writing (5722); and Mathematics (5732) require a passing score for each of the three subtests. There is not a composite passing score for the assessments. If a passing score is not obtained on each subtest, a subtest may be retaken as a standalone test.

The required passing scores for each subtest are as follows:

  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading (5712) – a score of at least 156 must be achieved to “pass” this subtest.
  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing (5722) – a score of at least 162 must be achieved to “pass” this subtest.
  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics (5732) – a score of at least 150 must be achieved to “pass” this subtest.

If you took the Praxis I exam prior to January 1, 2014 you may still use those official exam scores to meet the testing requirement for admissions to an initial licensure program. A composite score of 532 on the Praxis I (reading, writing, and math) is required; a minimum score on each test is not required as long as the composite of 532 is achieved. We cannot accept Praxis I scores taken January 1, 2014 or later.
