College of Education and Human Development

Congratulations Winter Graduates!

December 19, 2014

Telling thousands of George Mason University graduates “I do hope you tell the world with great pride where you studied,” President Ángel Cabrera delivered opening remarks on Dec. 18 at the first of two ceremonies at the Patriot Center on George Mason’s Fairfax campus.

There were 2,313 undergraduate degrees presented at the morning ceremony.

Kristina Skokan of Centreville, Va., and Nicole Froats of Las Vegas sat together at the ceremony. Both earned their bachelor’s degree from the College of Education and Human Development’s School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism, and each had extra reason to celebrate.

Skokan is turning her recent internship at the visitors’ center in historic Manassas, Va., into the first managerial position in her tourism and events management career.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” she says. “I’m the first in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree, and I already have a job waiting.”

Froats says she’s relieved she has a trade show coordinator position lined up at the American Sportfishing Association, also just outside Washington, D.C.

In the afternoon ceremony for graduate students, there were 1,259 master’s degrees, 121 doctorates, and 19 juris doctor and master of laws degrees presented.
