The Friends of OLLI presented the scholarships to several Mason students including Manne and Cusson, two undergraduates who were invited to apply by faculty from the Health and Physical Education program of the School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism (SRHT).

Courtney Manne and Kathryn Cusson.

Both students are moms who returned to college to earn their bachelor of science degree in health and physical education. Manne is graduating this year and will begin student teaching in the fall, while Cusson will be entering her senior year.

The Health and Physical Education program prepares undergraduate students to teach at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The curriculum is research based, emphasizes student learning, and promotes the teaching of diverse learners. The program also includes school-based field experiences that place students in various school grades under the supervision of master teachers.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University offers intellectual and cultural experiences in a welcoming atmosphere to Northern Virginia residents in their retirement years. The Friends of OLLI funds scholarships to deserving Mason students.
