Elementary Education: Professional Development Schools Program

The Elementary Education Professional Development Schools (PDS) program consists of three cohort models, and the entire program is dedicated to and demonsmenttrates our commitment to a deep collaboration between teacher education and individual elementary schools and districts. Carefully selected elementary schools in multiple school divisions are now involved in the shared preparation of exemplary teachers, and students are only placed in the schools with whom this strong relationship has been established. Each school has a PDS Leadership Team that includes school-based and university faculty. Site based mentor teachers and advanced mentor teachers meet regularly with individual faculty members at their school site, and also come together twice each semester to share and continuously improve the program. A representative Vision Group meets twice a year to address big-picture continuous improvement issues. In addition, teachers from the partner schools assist in selection of elementary teacher education applicants by serving on the interview panels with university faculty members.
