Elementary Education: Professional Development Schools

In the Professional Development School Program, the partner schools function like teaching hospitals, where candidates learn on the job before becoming full-time teachers. This innovative teacher preparation program also explores how to work with special-needs students, English language learners, and new classroom technology. PDSs are clinical field sites in which school and university partners together emphasize improving teacher education, the professional development of practicing teachers, and student learning within an inquiry-based environment. The PDS schools were carefully selected for diverse student populations, technology integration, faculty commitment, and coherence with the university's teacher education program.
