Elementary Education: Professional Dispositions
The Elementary Education Program supports ethical leadership in two ways. First, students are taught about and evaluated on professional dispositions from the beginning of their program and are expected to model these ideals. Second, the program supports the leadership of all school- based participants in the program. Specifically, exemplary teachers participate in a training program to become mentor faculty who mentor candidates through their internships. One individual at each school is selected to be the site facilitator who becomes responsible for leading the program, selecting placements of the candidates, and supporting teacher candidates through their transition to become educators. These individuals are encouraged to take on leadership roles in their schools and school divisions. Some have become leaders in action research and or professional development as well as teacher education.
