The School Counseling Leadership team was formally established in 2001 as an effort to respond to the lack of information, tools, and resources to develop comprehensive school counseling programs within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The team, which consists of practicing professional school counselors, school district supervisors of school counseling programs, counselor educators, state-level school counseling specialist, and leaders of counseling and school counseling professional associations, ensures that the transformation of school counseling is realized within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The team has three basic goals: clarify the role of professional school counselors within the Commonwealth of Virginia, transform counselor education programs and influence public policy governing school counselors and school counseling programs in Virginia.
