Consider an Alternative Spring Break!

Looking for something more meaningful than a beach week during your next Spring Break?  Consider signing up for one of the Social Action and Integrative Learning (SAIL) Alternative Spring Break programs.  Alternative Breaks bring students and communities together to address social issues through education and community service.  The process starts with extensive preparation and social immersion long before the trip itself, ensuring that the Alternative Break has a meaningful and lasting impact for all involved.

SAIL is currently planning six Alternative Spring Breaks for March 7 – 15, 2020, and now is the time to prepare your application to participate.  You can learn more about all of them here. Take a quick peek at just one program being offered below:

Through a partnership with Kamalbe Spanish School & Volunteer Center in Xela, Guatemala, students provide assistance to a local elementary school in the Xecanchavox community. This local, rural, community is majority indigenous, so students learn about the complexities of indigeneity in Latin America while also working on special projects in the afternoons such as community beautification, school remodeling, videography as determined by community need. Students stay with host families and will have the opportunity to travel around different parts of Guatemala.

Applications will be due January 25th, 2020: https://sail.gmu.edu/alternative-break/applications-and-information
