Training and Support Resources
Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the various trainings offered at the University and within CEHD. A selection of trainings is listed below along with information on how to register to attend a session.
Academic Advising Resource Guide - CEHD Office of Student and Academic Affairs (SAA)
The Academic Advising Resource Guide features a broad list of contacts for resources and services available on campus to assist faculty and staff, and more specifically, CEHD academic advisors, with supporting students.
Active Shooter- Department of Police and Public Safety
The Active Shooter Resource Officer is available to train individuals on prevention and response in the case of an active shooter. Training is offered Monday through Friday in room 230 of Police and Safety Headquarters.

Curriculum Inventory Management Training- Office of the University Registrar
CourseLeaf is the new software which GMU will use to update and maintain course and program curriculum data and to build and validate class schedules. All curriculum changes (courses/programs) and all academic scheduling changes will be entered into the CourseLeaf platform.

Emerge: Interpersonal Violence Survivor Ally Training for Faculty and Staff- Student Support and Advocacy Center
Emerge prepares the Mason community to respond to survivors of interpersonal violence and creates a network of faculty and staff dedicated to supporting survivors. The training will help you respond to student disclosures and assist you in connecting students with resources.

Mason Advisor Certificate Program- Mason Academic Advisor Network (MAAN)
The Mason Advisor Certificate Program (MAC) is designed to provide a codified training experience to enhance and develop the Mason advising experience. This six-module training series is intended for new and existing advisors alike and will provide a cohesive curriculum centered around topics related to advising approaches, Mason policies and procedures, advising tools, university resources, developing your advising philosophy, and much more!

Mason CARES- Counseling and Psychological Services
This training is a 2-hour gatekeeping program designed to train faculty and staff in how to respond to students who may be experiencing distress and suicidal thoughts and guide them in seeking appropriate assistance from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Military Alliance Program- Military Services
Mason’s Military Alliance Program (MAP) consists of an initial classroom training period of 2 hours designed to increase faculty and staff awareness and understanding of veteran and active duty students as they return to the classroom during and after military service. Participants will receive an official MAP shield to display upon completion. Once participants receive the initial training, continuing education and growth is encouraged. Faculty and staff MAP members can earn up to “Four Stars” to affix on the shield to display.

Safe Zone Training- LGBTQ Resources Office
Mason’s Safe Zone Program seeks to provide a way for allies – supportive students, faculty, and staff – to visibly indicate that they are safe contacts for LGBTQ people at Mason and promote an open-minded, safe, and welcoming campus environment in which students of all sexual orientations and gender identities can live and learn fully.

Student Success Collaborative- Center for Academic Advising, Retention, and Transitions (CAART)
The Student Success Collaborative (SSC) is a platform that combines technology, research, and predictive analytics to help positively inflect outcomes with at-risk and off-path students. With Mason’s SSC Campus, you can create coordinated support for students by being able to: identify students in need of support; track advising appointment and walk-in traffic; run campaigns to reach out to students based on specific criteria and easily schedule and track appointments.
