Lynn Wiley is the Director of the Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) at GMU. The T/TAC is funded by the Virginia Department of Education through the Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities (KIHd) in the Graduate School of Education. Lynn currently supervises fourteen educational specialists and four administrative support staff who provide training and technical assistance to 19 counties and cities in the northwest region of Virginia. Their focus is on helping teachers, administrators, and related service providers who work with children who have special educational needs, birth through age 22 years.

Lynn began her teaching career in an early childhood homebound program in the Appalachian Mountains. She has worked with students who have cognitive challenges in an institutional school setting, as well as students diagnosed with severe emotional issues in a hospital setting. She has taught students with behavioral/emotional challenges at a junior high school, and preschool and elementary children with hearing loss in both resource and self-contained programs. She has also worked closely with Head Start on a number of different projects and as a research assistant on a project based out of the Krasnow Institute at George Mason University. In past years, Lynn has taught courses in Early Childhood Language Development and Disorders in the Graduate School of Education. In addition, she has worked with graduate student teachers and interns as a university supervisor.

  • Language, literacy, and communication in young children who have special learning needs
  • Language acquisition in children who have hearing loss
  • Differentiation of instruction to facilitate academic success for all students (elementary through high school)
