Elementary Mathematics Specialist Award Goes to Anna Feil

October 22, 2015

Anna Feil

The Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators selected Anna Feil as one of three recipients nationwide of the Early Mathematics Specialist Scholarship.

The award honors teachers who have shown significant achievements in teaching mathematics through innovative practices that promote students' deeper mathematical understanding.

Feil is a master's degree student in the Graduate School of Education, part of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University. She is enrolled in the Mathematics Education Leadership program and is working toward certification as a mathematics specialist. A previous Mason recipient of the scholarship was Lindsey Atkinson in 2013.

Feil, an ESOL and math resource teacher at London Towne Elementary School in Centreville, Virginia, said she would not have known about the scholarship without the advice of Associate Professor Jennifer Suh.

"This scholarship will help me achieve my goal of becoming a math specialist," said Feil.

"My passion is providing students with extra support in mathematics and keep them excited about discovering new things and investigating the yet unknown," she said. "I make sure the students believe they all have great potential, can become successful learners, and achieve great things."
