Doctoral Student Receives Aspiring Superintendent Scholarship

August 27, 2014

A doctoral student from George Mason University has received, for the second year in a row, the Aspiring Superintendent Scholarship from AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

Matthew Ragone, the principal of Langley High School in Fairfax County, received the award during a recent AASA conference. Ragone is working on his PhD in Education with a specialization in Education Policy at George Mason's Graduate School of Education, part of the College of Education and Human Development.

"I was extremely honored and surprised to receive the AASA award," Ragone says. "For this group to reach out to and encourage prospective superintendents is really amazing. Dr. Smith was very generous to nominate me. He, like all the professors at the Graduate School of Education, are always looking for ways to support and celebrate their students. It is a wonderful place to learn."

David Landeryou, the principal of Key Elementary School in Washington, D.C., and a George Mason doctoral student specializing in Education Leadership, received the award last summer.
