Dean Ginsberg Speaks at "Parents as Teachers" Reception

February 6, 2015

This week, Mark R. Ginsberg, dean of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, spoke at a reception on Capitol Hill sponsored by the Parents as Teachers organization, a nonprofit that helps communities partner with parents to do a better job of preparing children for a stronger start in life—for example, through early detection of developmental delays and health issues—and for greater success in school. Ginsberg is on the board of directors.

The reception honored Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL), a long time congressional supporter and advocate for effective, successful, and evidence-based home visiting and early childhood education programs.

Ginsberg spoke about the importance of home visiting programs as a strategy to promote the learning, health, and development of young children, and as a means to engage families through evidence-based parent and family education. He reviewed the research that affirms the impact of these programs as well as the need for continued funding to support initiatives such as the Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program.

The reception was also sponsored by the Home Instruction for the Parents of Preschool Children organization, HIPPYUSA.
