Professors Bemak and Chung Named ACA Fellows

Congratulations to Fred Bemak and Rita Chi-Ying Chung. The professors in the Graduate School of Education recently received Fellow Awards from the American Counseling Association.

The Fellow Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant, distinctive, or unique contribution to the counseling profession through professional practice, scientific achievement and governance, or teaching and training.

Bemak is a professor in the Counseling and Development program and founder and director of the Diversity Research and Action Center. He also founded Counselors Without Borders and took teams to provide training, consultation, and counseling following Hurricane Katrina on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, and the San Diego Wildfires. 

Rita Chi-Ying Chung is also a professor at the Counseling and Development program. She has published extensively in the fields of cross-cultural and multicultural psychology and counseling and has over 90 publications in professional journals and book chapters in major psychology and counseling textbooks, as well as two books, one on refugee trauma, adjustment and psychological well-being, and the other on social justice counseling. 

Fred Bemak also recently received an honorary professorship from Amity University, the top research university in India, for extraordinary academic achievements in the field of education and human development. He received the honor at the university's convocation along with Dr. Kumar Krishen, NASA Johnson Space Center, and Dr. Paroma Roy Chowdhury, Google India.
