CEHD Named One of the Top 100 Education Colleges in the World

October 3, 2017

In its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for 2017, the prestigious international ranking organization, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, has placed Mason’s College of Education and Human Development in the top 100 Education schools in the world.

The Education rankings include 300 universities—from the United States, to Turkey, to Singapore. After ranking the first 50 universities individually, the rankings change to blocks of 25 universities and then to blocks of 50 and 100 universities.

CEHD was ranked in the block that included 76th through 100th place.

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy’s world university rankings are widely regarded as one of the most prestigious and influential measures of accomplishment and reputation among research universities around the world.

“This is a really great testimony to, and affirmation of, the work of our faculty and another reason for students to enroll in the College of Education and Human Development at Mason,” Dean Mark Ginsberg said.

The rankings take into account five individual factors, including the number of overall papers published by faculty in the college and awards won by faculty members. According to a press release accompanying the 2017 rankings, “Ranking indicators include those measures of research productivity, research quality, extent of international collaboration, research with top quality, and the highest academic recognitions.”

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy has been ranking individual academic subjects since 2009. This year, 52 subjects were included, as were more than 4,000 universities.

“We’re proud of this respected recognition and also very proud of the accomplishments of our faculty,” Ginsberg said.
