Mason Grad is The Washington Post's Teacher of the Year

Every morning, Mason alumnus Dan Reichard starts his fifth-grade class at Kate Waller Barrett Elementary School in Stafford, Va., with a secret handshake—27 of them, to be exact, one for each of his students. Reichard said it took about two weeks to memorize the handshakes he asked his students to invent at the beginning of the school year.
