Profile

Dr. Goor received his Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology at the State University of New York at Albany, his Master of Arts in Special Education at the University of Denver, and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Special Education and Leadership from the University of Virginia. Currently, he is the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. Prior to joining the faculty at George Mason University, he was a faculty member at Emporia State University in Kansas. Dr. Goor has been a teacher, diagnostician, and administrator in New York, Colorado, and Virginia.

His research and publications have focused on collaboration among general and special educators as well as preparation for educators to accommodate students with special needs. Dr. Goor has been associate editor and consulting editor of several special education journals and publications. He is active in the Council for Exceptional Children, and served as President of the Teacher Education Division. Dr. Goor is a story teller and has a natural affinity for the case-study method. He believes that case studies enable teachers and administrators to construct a conceptual framework with which to interpret education and its current challenges. Dr. Goor published a textbook in special education administration which uses a case-based approach. He published a book of teaching strategies called "Create More Time to Teach." His latest book of case studies for student teachers is "To Think Like a Teacher".
