Dr. Jason Winchester earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Wellness from Northwest Missouri State; a Master of Science in Human Performance from Wisconsin-La Crosse; and his Ph.D. with a major in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Biomechanics from Louisiana State University. Professionally, he has worked with athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional level; with the general population in corporate, collegiate, and private settings; and with clinical populations such as those found in cardiac rehabilitation programs. In addition to his current position at Mason, Dr. Winchester works as a sport scientist for Human Performance Consulting whose clients include groups such as U.S.A. Track and Field and several others.
Dr. Winchester is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has been re-certified with distinction (*D). He is also certified as a Sports Performance Coach (SPC) through U.S.A. Weightlifting (USAW). His research, which focuses on optimizing human performance, has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented at several national and international scientific and professional conferences. Furthermore, his work has been featured via published interviews in several popular media outlets to include magazines, newspapers, and websites.
Dr. Winchester is active in professional organizations and serves on the Exam Development Committee for the CSCS exam for the NSCA. In addition, he serves as co-chair for the Strength and Conditioning Special Interest Group for the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Winchester has been solicited as an expert scientific reviewer for several quality journals to include: Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, International Journal of Sports Medicine, European Journal of Applied Physiology, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Strength and Conditioning Journal, Journal of Sport Sciences, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and Journal of Sport Science and Medicine. He is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
