Jim Upperman is an Associate Professor in the Education Leadership Program at George Mason University. He teaches licensure classes in both the campus and cohort programs.
As a K-12 career educator in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Upperman devoted more than thirty years to instructional and leadership roles in the public schools. He was a high school foreign language educator, principal and school superintendent, and was named the Northern Virginia Superintendent of the Year in 2000.
Upperman has served as a keynote speaker and presenter in a variety of forums, and is currently providing professional development assistance in the supervision and evaluation of instruction to local school systems. He teaches the supervision and evaluation course most semesters, and also has taught the human/fiscal resources course, the leading schools and communities class, and the organizational theory course. Upperman is also an internship instructor/advisor, and works individually with approximately fifty interns each semester.
