Office of Outreach and
Professional Development

Welcome

Welcome to The Office of Outreach and Professional Development webpage, the official site that brings you the latest information about our work.

Through partnerships with schools, communities, and agencies, the office provides opportunities for high quality professional development for a wide range of people who work in the helping professions so that everyone can be successful learners. It serves as the liaison with the Virginia Department of Education, is the accountability office for new and existing academic programs, and is responsible for the timely reporting of program information to various external constituencies.

The Office carries out the College’s five core values—collaboration, ethical leadership, innovation, research-based practice, and social justice through providing high quality professional development for teachers, extending educational services to schools and agencies, and building strong collaborative ties to the region.

The major arm of the Office of Outreach and Professional Development is the Office of Education Services (OES). Working together with schools, communities, and agencies, OES is making meaningful contributions to professional development across the lifespan, from early childhood to adult education. Here is a sample of the services we offer:

    • over 100 non degree contract courses for multiple constituencies each year,
    • an annual institute for principals, assistant principals, and central office personnel to help them build communication skills,
    • PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II preparation workshops for those seeking Virginia licensure,
    • a university partnership with Teach for America to prepare the highest quality early childhood and special education teachers to teach in urban settings,
    • program evaluation for a variety of academic and professional development programs.

As The Office of Outreach and Professional Development looks ahead, we look forward to working with you in developing high quality professional development initiatives to improve the educational opportunities for all professionals. Please let us hear from you.
