December 3, 2014
The Chronicle of Higher Education caps off its ambitious, week-long series on college drinking with a live Google Hangout video discussion on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2 pm Eastern Time called "What Can Colleges Do About Binge Drinking?".
One of the two experts participating in the live discussion is David S. Anderson, professor in the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University and director of the Center for the Advancement of Public Health.
Also providing insights and answering questions is John D. Clapp, director of the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery at Ohio State University. The discussion is moderated by Chronicle writer Beth McMurtrie.

"I hope this will spark meaningful conversations on campuses throughout the nation -- from board room tables to conference room tables and dining room tables," said Anderson, whose research activities include the College Alcohol Survey, a national longitudinal survey of four-year college efforts to address alcohol, drug, tobacco, and violence.
"Alcohol abuse permeates too much of our campus culture, from sexual assualt and violent behavior to property damage, lowered academic performance, and student attrition," he noted. "It is inconsistent with the missions and purposes of our campuses, and I am hopeful that we can help it 'graduate' from our campus culture."
As part of its series, the Chronicle of Higher Education developed a list of recommended resources, one of which is "Promising Practices: Campus Alcohol Strategies," a series of strategic planning documents compiled by George Mason's Center for the Advancement of Public Health.
