Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's Option Now Available

Mason undergraduates interested in a teaching career can now earn 2 degrees in 5 years! Discover the new Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's option. 

Complete 2 degrees in 5 years!

The Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's option is a fast, smart way for George Mason University undergraduates to save time, save money, and get a head start on their career. Students can:

  • Save a full year of tuition costs — up to $6,000!
     
  • Eliminate the need to wait and apply separately to graduate school
     
  • Maximize time and effort by counting courses toward both degrees
     
  • Qualify for higher salaries and more opportunities
     

The new Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's option offers undergraduates an opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree, a masters of education degree, and a teaching license in just five years. Photo by Donnie Biggs, courtesy of Fairfax County Public Schools.

Through this five-year program, you'll earn both a bachelor's degree and a masters of education degree plus fulfill all of the academic requirements needed to qualify for a Virginia teaching license. It's a great way to put more opportunities within reach immediately upon graduation.

Apply for this option in the second semester of your junior year if you have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and are interested in teaching one of the following:

Other education pathways

In addition to the Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's option, two other pathways are available to undergraduates interested in a career in education. These are:

  • Earn a bachelor's degree + a teaching license
  • Declare an undergraduate minor in an education-related field

Please meet one-on-one with an academic advisor from the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The advisor can explain how to fulfill university and state academic requirements for becoming a teacher and much more.

The advising is important because in Virginia, a bachelor’s degree and a teaching license and several other requirements are necessary to be an elementary or secondary school teacher in the public schools.
