Jeane Ryder is a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer who works alongside Jessie Shanks, the Head Certified Athletic Trainer for Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. On Saturday, the high school was hosting the Cardinal District wrestling tournament when a wrestler from another school appeared to have a seizure and stopped breathing. Ryder, Shanks, and a parent flew into action to the young man's aid.

Forest Park head wrestling coach Seth Cameron noted, "You hear about heroes on the news and read about them in the newspaper but you rarely get to see it first hand. I know that they will humbly say that they were just doing their jobs. But I wanted them to know that the wrestling community and myself are forever grateful for their selfless actions."

Dr. Shane Caswell, associate professor of athletic training at George Mason University's School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism, added, "I want to commend both for their emergency preparedness and professionalism in delivering rapid life saving medical care."

Ryder serves at Forest Park High School as part of an ongoing partnership with Prince William County Public Schools called the ACHIEVES Project (Advancing Healthcare Initiatives for Underserved Students), which is funded by a generous grant from the Potomac Health Foundation. She received her undergraduate degree at Mason in the highly regarded Athletic Training Education Program and is currently pursuing a master's degree in the Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion program.
