Fall 2012

Katy Ridnouer, BA English ’91 and MEd Curriculum and Instruction ’93, published her first novel, Hillwalking. She teaches developmental English at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Deborah E. Brown, BS Psychology ’92 and MEd Counseling and Development ’98, earned a life coaching certificate from the International Coach Academy and started her own business. She has clients all over the world with whom she communicates via phone or Skype. She moved to Delaware in 2002 and retired from Easter Seals in 2010.

Jeanne Donovan Hepperle, BA English ’93 and MEd Curriculum and Instruction ’96, has published a collection of poems, “Gandhi & I are Saying Goodbye.” It is available via Kindle and Nook e-readers. She credits Mason faculty and classmates with providing the inspiration for the collection, especially Professor Don Gallehr.

Sherry Nyman Heuser, MEd Couseling and Development ’94, and her husband, David, welcomed a daughter, Erica, on June 7, 2011.

Lani Leary, PhD Education ’97, was a featured speaker on TEDxHonolulu on November 1, 2011. Her presentation was based on her new book, No One Has to Die Alone: Preparing for a Meaningful Death. The presentation is archived on TEDxHonolulu.com and YouTube. The book was released in April 2012 from Simon & Schuster.

Jacquelyn Krupa Schmidt, MEd Curriculum and Instruction ’97, was named 2011 Advisor of the Year by the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) National at the organization’s June conference. She advises the chapter at Chaparral High School in Temecula, California.

Gladys Landing-Corretjer, MEd Education Leadership ’02, published the book, Listen to Me! An Exploration of Students’ Voices Regarding Homework in May 2011 through Lambert Academic Publishing.

Deidre C. Alves, MEd Curriculum and Instruction ’03, launched Sprout Development Group, a Los Angeles-based company that designs learning solutions for executive leadership. The company sponsors CSR Lifeworks Program, which works to develop leadership skills in students from underserved and disenfranchised communities in Los Angeles. Alves is a Mason Southern California Regional Alumni Ambassador.

Neil Beech, MEd Education Leadership ’06, received a $25,000 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. The award is designed to recognize and reward elementary and secondary school teachers, principals, and administrators who promote excellence and innovation in public education. Beech is principal of Osbourn Park High School in Prince William County, Virginia.
