Yes, we have program specialists who are knowledgeable about all of our graduate education programs. They will be your first contact for information about any of our programs. Any questions that cannot be answered by our program specialists will then be referred to our program coordinators or advisors. Once you have applied and been accepted to the program of your choice, a faculty advisor will be assigned to you.
Please read the CEHD Program Requirements carefully for application dates for your specific program.
In some cases, we can arrange to supervise your student teaching internship if you have completed a teacher licensure program through another school in Virginia.
For counseling certification, however, you must complete at least 9 credits with us through our counseling program. Counselor certification is tricky. You must complete a state-approved program in order to be certified. At George Mason, our state-approved program is the master's degree. For people who already have a degree in counseling, but not school counseling, and now are interested in becoming a school counselor, requirements will vary from person to person, depending on what was covered in their previous counseling master's degree. For more information on this, you will need to speak with one of our program coordinators.
When you received your acceptance letter, the name of your advisor and their e-mail address were included. If this information is missing, please call 703-993-3832 for that information.
